LONG RANGES BENCHMARK RATINGS FOR F OPEN

#1 Postby John T » Thu Nov 10, 2016 10:19 pm

This is an assessment of results at long ranges (700, 800, 900m/800, 900,1000yds) at Queen's Prize Meetings over a rolling 2-year period.

The purpose is to give F Open shooters some idea of where they lie in the long ranges field. It does not pretend to be, nor is it, definitive. As Popeye might say, "it is what it is."

The essential ingredient is a simplistic attempt to reduce the widely varying events to something like a common denominator. That is the "Benchmark", taken from the old golf handicapping method.

NRAA, June 2016. Ranges, 800, 900, 900, 1000yds. HPS 240.
Shooters 35. Benchmark Score, 35/4 = 9th Score. 233.
Benchmark Percentage, BM Score/ HPS. 233/240 = 97.083%.
Individual Percentage, Score/HPS.
BM% RATING, ID% - BM%.
Examples.
Davies R. Score, 237. ID%, 237/240 = 98.75% - 97.083% (BM%) = Rating of +1.667%.
Lewis B. 233. 97.083% - 97.083% 0.0%.
Ferrara B. 231. 96.25% - 97.083% -0.833%

Every shooter will have a Benchmark % Rating which is above, equal to or below the BM% for the event.

The minimum number of shoots is 3, the maximum is 5. The frequent competitor is rewarded with the benefit of cutting low Ratings.

The 3, 4 or 5 Event BM% Ratings are averaged to give the current BM% Rating.

The current List is attached.

Out of mischief and fun, I have projected Phantom scores for the ACT long ranges. There are no prizes and no accolades and punters are warned: my tips for The Cup were Exospheric, 8th, and Wicklow Brave, 22nd.

Here are the ACT Long Ranges Results.
31 shooters started, so 8th place (31/4), 175, was the Benchmark Score and 97.222% (175/180) was the BM%.
Of the 31, 21 had an Average (3,4 or 5 counting shoots).
Top Rating was Rod Davies with 1.453% of HPS above BM, that is 2 points above 175 (.01453 x 180 = 2.6154, 2 whole number). Rod shot 177.
He was placed 2nd, down 1 on his Rating.
His Personal Benchmark (PBM) of 1.111 was down 0.342 on his Rating of 1.453.

The "PBM, +/-" column compares this result the individual's Average.

The "Rated to BM%" column gives the relativity of performances, as a % of HPS, above, equal to or below the Benchmark.

The winning performance was an outstanding individual effort, 12 places and 2.932% above Rating.

Brent Knudsen was also very impressive.
