THE BLOODBATH AT BELMONT

#1 Postby John T » Mon Feb 29, 2016 9:28 pm

Hello all.

On Saturday morning, 27th, the MDRA held its Champion of Champions contest. It was very hot and humid and the worst carnage since Duncan opened in 1964.

Thankfully for posterity, it was shot on Hex targets. Go to its site, hit "Shooter list" and type in a name to view the gory scene. You will need to zoom out to see all the shots.

I was not there, I was a-pool; the Niki Lauda option. There were 11 TR, 4 F STD and 4 F OPEN, including some better than average shots, especially in TR; Geoff Grosskreutz (40.2), Helen Griffiths (32.2), Gordon Duncan (38.1), with the evergreen Ernie Mace (43.0/60.10) in STD, at 1000.

Here is some plagiarism to commemorate the event.

"THE SPEECH ON SAINT COMGAN'S DAY"

This day is call'd the feast of Comgian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil shout the bar,
And say 'To-morrow is Saint Comgian.'
Then will he strip his coat and show his scars,
And say 'This flogging I had on Comgian's day.'
Old men forget; but he'll remember the devastation,
Mirage and wind, unreadable even by Salah al-Din.
Then shall our names- O'Loghlen, Griffiths and Duncan,
Mace and Pollock, Grosskreutz and Kraut-
Be, in his flowing cup, freshly rememb'red.
And Comgan Comgian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-
We few, we shattered few, we band of boo boos;
And gentlemen in Brisbane now a-pool
Shall think themselves prescient they were not here
And hold there luck a fortune whiles any speaks
That floundered with us upon Saint Goman's day.
