Beaudesert RC Christmas shoot results

#1 Postby ecomeat » Tue Dec 16, 2014 10:27 am

Beaudesert Rifle Club held their Xmas shoot (2 + 15 at 500 yards) on Sunday 14/12 with a number of headaches being ignored, following on from our Presentation Night, the night before .
Club Secretary Brendan Samuels runs a business called Active Safe Removals, and one of their Kiwi workers cooked a superb genuine "Hangi" to feed more that 80 hungry folks, and will be talked about for months. My daughter had a kiwi boyfriend at one stage, and he and his mates cooked some pretty bloody woeful "Hangi" food, so to get to eat the REAL thing, done by an expert, was a real treat . Image
That is Charlie the chef in the Safety Thongs
The big winner on the night was fast rising star Di Hannel who only started shooting F Open less than two years ago with her 6.5 x 47 Lapua, with her husband Allan ( Moses to all who know him) taking charge of all reloading and gun maintainence so Di can concentrate on the shooting and running their horse stud.
Between 22 Rimfire and F Open, Di took home something like 13 separate trophies for the night!
In F Open, :
She won "the most shoots Wins", with 15 Wins.
She won "Best Score" , with 125-14.
She won "Most 6's over 5 Shoots" with 95
She won "Most X's over 5 Shoots" with 55
She won "Best Score for 10 Shoots" with 1226-80
And just got pipped for the Club Championship on X's ! I think the best I ever did, when I was in smokin hot form for a while, was just three trophies . Bloody women ! And now she can't get the grin off her face, after hearing that her very first 7mm barrel is about to leave Bartlein , headed for Importer , Craig McGowan. I should never have let her shoot my 284 Win [-( [-( . Once she saw for herself how ridiculously easy to shoot a well weighted 284 was, nothing was going to stop her from having one for longer ranges ....... so now I will really be in trouble !

At our Xmas shoot, I. finally found some form, and had a score win with 89-7, with my 2x X's to finish counting out the greatly improved Steve Nelson (Footsore on this and other Forums) who is finally back home after a grand two month long shooting/road trip that saw him compete at OPMs in Central Qld before heading south all the way to Rosedale in Vic , where he got to witness some southern hospitality and shooting....and wind !
Di Hannel was a point behind on 88-9, followed by Meichelle Knudsen on 87-7, then Brent Knudsen on 86-8, and our visitor Justine on 85-2.
However, with Mrs Hannel on an unstoppable roll, Handicaps were at play, and her 88-9 was a perfect match for her nominated "2", giving her (AGAIN ! ) the overall win for the day.
Brent Knudsen (2014 F Open Club Champion) got second pick of the Prize table with a better choice of Handicap than myself, as I only managed a third pick, despite my 89-7 .
Poor Steve Nelson must have greatly outshot his chosen Handicap, because his own 89-7 didn't get him to the table !
Steve's younger brother Norm, is the Victorian based long range F Class specialist who won the Australian Long Range F Class Championship at Narrabri last year and has been following his older brothers progress into F Open with great interest. Besides being a well performed F Open shooter, Norm is an experienced deer hunter, and also runs the popular Australian Long Range Shooters blog.
Something tells me that Mr Nelson Jnr might have passed on a few tips while His older brother was visiting recently.

The Other "F's" were more or less combined, with scores as follows
Brendan Samuels (part time shooter and regular TR man) 84-6
Marty Duffield from Mariners Club at Belmont. 84-3
Lee Robinson (Club Captain & TR shooter representing Australia in 2015) 81-3
Brent Nelson (very part time Shooter) 80-2
Mike Samuels (Club President and Aus FTR rep) 79-3
Eric Dudley (2014 F Std Club Champion) 79-2

Only 2 brave souls dressed up and shot TR, with RO Jeff Day scoring 73-6 despite his headache, to beat Stephen Small home on 70-5.

Moses and Jeff. Only one of them was brave enough to come over to the dark side on Sunday

Our club Shotgunners shot off the same range mound at the same time, and a good number of F Class and TR shooters finally succumbed to the pressure and tried their hand with shotguns at 2 virtually simultaneously released clays. I have to admit that I used to think I was half handy with a shotgun many years ago, but I was one of many who didn't pose much of a threat at all, to those pretty little flouro orange clay targets. Most of mine were only broken when they hit the ground. While I managed a handful of hits on the closer clay, flying across the front at a low height, I missed 12 out of 12 of the higher, faster ones going a lot further away. :P
I think I will stick to F Open !
Now I just need Matt Paroz to get to work chambering the replacement 7mm barrel that Frank Green from Bartelin supplied to me at no cost after I killed one, so I can at least make Di work for her wins.
Extreme accuracy and precision shooting at long range can be a very addictive pastime.

Yes nothing quite like a well executed hangi! The only one I've had in Australia was my own attempt about 30 years ago, never to be tried again. The Maori do not give away their secrets lightly. Picking the wrong stones was my downfall. Ended up having to put it in the electric oven for an hour to finish the cooking process. Fortunately the 20 or so guests were very hungry by the time it was ready, so no fussy eaters :D .

Glad to see your Xmas shoot went well. Quite a few familiar names there. Steve Nelson will hopefully be coming down here to live in the new year. Makes up a little for the usual northerly migration.

We will have our Xmas shoot on Saturday at Rosedale, including 2 x 10 shots at 700 yards, then later the infamous Done Loadin' 1000 (was called the Bin Loadin' prior to 2011  ). One shot, no sighters, no marking of previous shooter, distance 1000yds, very revealing! And this year will be the final annual presentations for Sale and Stratford-Maffra Rifle Clubs, now merged as Rosedale.

It was a great night, and very well attended by members from Shotgun, Big and Small bore. The club is growing rapidly with between 30 and 40 Rimfire shooters every second Sunday and 20 Shotgunners on the alternate Sunday. Of course we shoot Full Bore every Sunday from 11am, and all are welcome. Range is open most Wednesdays by appointment with our president Mike Samuels 0411 707 060

Terrific write up as always Tony =D>

Cam, I have to jump in here with my claim that yes, I was very, very well behaved.
If you look at the F Class scores, there is a very correct trend there, of Sunday scores being directly related to Saturday night behavior. Unlike our friend Rod Davies, my shooting is vastly improved if I stay off the drink
As you can see from the scores, a number of shooters "failed to perform to reasonable expectations"
:D :D
