Geelong Prize Meeting

#1 Postby Peter Hulett » Tue Feb 07, 2006 11:17 pm

A generous donation from Procal Trading has ensured that the Geelong Prize Meeting on February 18th will have a trophy for first place in F-Open as well as a badge. Depending on numbers we will also offer 2nd and 3rd badges as well as trophies.

We are offering four shoots at 800metres on championship targets with aggregate scores counting towards the prizes.

F-Open shooters will have a target dedicated to them for the day so that they can arrange their shooting to suit their needs. All we ask is that you are prepared to mark the F-Open target as the need arises.

This is a trial for us and we would really like to see the F-Open fraternity support us. We are on a new range and we have a severe debt problem that we need to clear up.

The progamme is on the PM flyer elsewhere on this site or for direct contact ring on 0352443553 or e-mail on hulett@ncable.net.au

The Geelong OPM has been run and won (see Results. Thanks to the Geelong RC for providing this unique facility and for putting on a very good meeting. Overall numbers were down a little, but F-Class weren't, in fact F-Open was up from 3 last year to 5. I think F-Std had about 8 or 10.

Conditions were challenging - despite being a clear winner in F-Std, even John Eland had one range where things went wrong. Bruce Houston continued with his good form from the last day at the Tassie Queens.

In F-Open the standout performer was Daniel Bennett from Portland who cleaned up with his 6BR-X (Stolle Panda action). If it wasn't for a miss (dud round) in the third range, he probably would have increased his margin by another 9 points or so. He's been shooting mostly benchrest and isn't in a VRA affiliated club so wasn't eligible for the badge or trophy. But hopefully that will change soon when he joins one of the local VRA clubs.

Our sponsor Pete van Meurs turned in a consistent performance, and hopefully will be back often. He's yet to get his priorities right regarding what's more important - benchrest or F-Class  !

All in all it was good day's shooting with a nice bunch of blokes.

Alan
