ACT Queens F-Open Blog

#1 Postby AlanF » Tue Nov 15, 2011 10:58 pm

I don't know why shooters keep coming back, but here we all are at the ACT Queens, knowing that most of us will be in for a serious flogging.

There are some big names coming - Obama touches down a few km down the road tomorrow - not sure whether he's shooting F-Class, TR or possibly ICBMs?

Anyway, I hope to be back tomorrow night with some info on who did what.

Alan :D

Good luck Alan, I know the range well, the old Aboriginal name for it means "flags that blow in every direction all at the same time". Now I know why they invented boomerangs, if they missed the first time, they would get another go. I went to ANZAC last Saturday, ten electronic targets on, only nine were working, our was the unlucky one, so I shot with Bankstown at 600m, finished the day with 112.6/120, cannot complain, still work to do on other ranges but I am looking forward to the Queens.

Yes Rod brought out Gertrude (6.5 WSSM) at 600m and I watched with amazement - elevation sub-inch for the whole 15 shots.

Other calibres Rod Mahon 6 Dasher/6.5-284, myself 6.5-284/7 Shehane, Rob Small 22 Dasher, Gary Hunt 6 Dasher/6.5-284, Kel Bell 6x47, Ben Ferrara 6x47, Russell Le Maitre 6 Dasher. Haven't bumped into Tim White or Geoff Willis yet.

Weather was pleasant, conditions pretty good by Canberra standards. Tomorrow might be cooler.

Bob Eager is lurking around ready for the Queens. We're expecting Paul (Chopper) Read for the Queens too.

I'm off to the pub for a feed, and also to try a few psychological strategies with Rod Davies - well what else can we do? :(

Catch you tomorrow night.

Alan :)

You've discounted grievous bodily harm then?

The leadup agg results aren't up yet so I'll tell you that Rod Davies cleared out in F-Open with 415.23 2nd Ben Ferrara 406.30 3rd Rod Mahon 405.21

In F-Std 1st Noel Osborn 405.26 2nd Bob Pedersen 405.21 3rd Adam Davies 403.17, and in TR 1st Geoff Grenfell 347.42 2nd Spencer Dunstall 346.32 3rd Steve Williams 344.32.

If all the F-Open shooters from the leadup stay on, we'll have 15 in the Queens! Paul (Chopper) Read, Paul (ratshot) Deehan, Dave (Tiger) Groves, Bob Eager and Geoff Miners were all heree today in readiness.

Tomorrow's weather forecast is 30C with possibility of an afternoon shower.

Back tomorrow night.

Actually I believe Gertrude only came out for one range. There were 6 and 7mm non-Gertrudes involved in the annihilation as well. :(

DAY 1 AGG Results

Sorry this is late - I'm desperately trying to concoct some loads to get some respectability tomorrow  .

Yes Rod is in magnificent form. Things were tricky at times today, particularly at 600m. But its the longs tomorrow, and the wind is going to get up a bit, so there could be an opening for the trailing pack.

I'll try to have some more details about calibres tomorrow night.

Alan
