45cal 2.6"case loaded with a 550 gn paper patch bullet over about 100 gn of 1f powder will do it if the rear sight staff is high enough.
the back position is recommended.

If your Weaver has 60min of elevation adjustment, then theoretically you'll be able to get both 300yds and 1500yds with the same rail slope. However, be aware that some scopes have big problems as they get close to the extremes of reticule adjustment. You might find that you can wind up the elevation for 1500yds, but at the same time lose most of your windage adjustment. It seems you can't simultaneously use the extreme adjustment of elevation and windage.

That is a good point Alan about running out of windage at extreme elevation.
I will be trying my rifle by shimming the rail, to see how far I have to elivat it. I will also see how much windage I have left .
The extra aiming marks will be a great help, good idea.
