If I don't get Telstragated again, then I'll give nightly reports of leadup and Queens. Weather is shaping up to be quite hot. Oddly, its quite cold tonight. So first report tomorrow night.

Results after day 1 are here : http://www.canberrarifleclub.org.au/queens/results/2009/lu_d1agg.html
The turnout is a little less than expected - seems like the hot weather is partly responsible. It was well over 30 today, and we're expecting 37s for the next 2 days.
Calibres were as follows : Gary Hunt 6 Dasher, myself 6 Dasher and 6.5-284, Rod Mahon 6 Dasher, Dave Groves 6.5x55AI, Rod Davies 284 Win and 22BR (?), Kel Bell 6x47 and 6.5-284, Mick Passlow 6x47 and 6.5x55 (?). Gary and Rod M will be shooting some ranges with a 6.5-284 tomorrow.
Barb Moritz had a spectacular day in F-Std, in fact good enough to be second in F-Open.
Catch you tomorrow night, hopefully earlier than this

Hi Alan.
There is a good number of F Class Standard shooters and it's great to see Clancy Helbig doing her best, she's at 24th on the first day. Good onya Clancy, give em heaps.
Gary is off to a good start with his 8 point lead, keep up the good work Gary.
What weight projectiles are being used in Rod's 22 BR Alan? and are you scoring the v bull as a 7 ?
Cheers

Paul,
Last time I asked he was using flat base custom made. Maybe Rod will jump in and give you the good oil.
Yes F-Open is scoring out of 70.

Today was pretty warm, but towards the end of the day the cloud cover helped. Then we had quite strong nor-westers after 3pm.
Congrats to Gary Hunt on winning the leadup and also on smithing the first three .
Rod Davies did some brilliant shooting in short bursts, so expect to see him improve in the Queens. I understand Matt Paroz and Geoff Miners have been seen lurking around the range , and we think there will be about 12 in the Queens.
The ACT scraped together a team (well done Dave Groves) for the Tiverton Cup, so we had Vic vs ACT, plus many F-Std teams competing. I believe results will be announced tomorrow night.
Catch you then.

Matt Paroz (6BR), Hans Hoitink (260 Rem), Geoff Miners (6x47 and 6.5x55) and Robe Eager (6 Dasher) all joined us today.
Weather was hot, but a late shower cooled things somewhat. The highlight of the day was a 70 at 300m by Rod Mahon. Hans had extraction problems and had to go home and take some powder out, and so he lost a lot of points. As you can see it is very close for the daily agg - tomorrow will probably open things up a bit. However, even with the super V scored as 7, because of the very generous 4 ring, a disastrous shoot doesn't put you back too far.
Back tomorrow night.

Hello again. Its Saturday night and the longs are gone. Conditions were better temperature-wise, but some ranges were tricky as the scores indicate. The main movers have been Rob Eager and I who have both gone a little backwards . Rod Davies has a handy lead for this type of target, but I'd like to think that there's quite a few of us capable of capitalising if luck doesn't smile on him at 500 and 600 tomorrow.
Time for my last batch of reloading. I'll probably stay on the range tomorrow night so will give you a final blog then.

Another very enjoyable Canberra Queens has come to an end. Despite the hot weather, it was a great event for the shooters, thanks to the effort put in by the volunteers.
Congratulations to Rod Davies who showed again that he's a very formidable shooter by taking the number 1 badge in Open. He didn't actually seal the victory until the last range with a very impressive 69 which meant Rob Eager needed a 70 possible. Despite starting with 4 7s, Rob understandably was facing huge odds, and didn't get the 70. And Rod Mahon had a well deserved 3rd place.
In general conditions were easier than normal this year, as evidenced by the high TR scores compared with previous years.
The Super V was generally well accepted by F-Open shooters as a necessary compromise to reduce target costs. We didn't run a poll on the 7 vs 6.1 choice. This is the first time I've shot the Super V valued as 7, and I guess its okay (its certainly a good way of disguising how bad your F-Std score would be ). However I'm not sure we'll have any say on the matter, because the decision seems to have already been made, but I've been unable to find out what it is.
