Long range shoot

#1 Postby Chris Burdett » Tue Oct 13, 2009 8:37 pm

By way of advance notice, a Match Rifle Invitation meeting at the new
Coonabarabran Range is being organised by the NSWMRA and the Coonabarabran
Civilian and Military Rifle Club to coincide with the visit of the Great
Britain Match Rifle Team in April 2010.

There are 15 members of the Great Britain team who are planning to
participate in this shoot and it will be on the Anzac weekend following the
Nationals and Woomera match in Brisbane. At the request of the GB Team, the
shoot will be on Sunday 25th April and Monday 26th April (the Monday is a
Public Holiday). This will allow those travelling from Brisbane a travel day
and a rest day after the Woomera Match.

The Program, which has been developed in consultation with the GB team, is
for Match Rifle Open and Long Range F Class shooters and will be 1000, 1200
and 1500 to be shot on the Sunday and 1100, 1200 and 1500 on Day 2 - all 15
shot matches. The Grand Aggregate will be on all ranges excluding the 1500
yard ranges. There will be a separate trophy for the 1500 yard aggregate. In
conjunction with this there will be a drawn pairs match for the Coolibah
trophy (one GB person and one Australian per pair).

The range will be open on the Saturday afternoon for those wanting to get
elevation. Additional sighters will be provided for at 1000 and 1500 on Day
1. Arrangements are also being made to have additional sighiting boards on
the top of the stop butt for those who may not have sufficient scope
elevation to get back to 1500 yards.

The Coonabarabran range is nearing completion, they have built 6 targets and
machines, the stop butt is completed and that flag poles are in place with
the target gallery well under construction and expected to be completed in
the next few weeks weather permitting.

At this stage we are looking for an idea of the number of people that would
be thinking of coming to this weekend so that we have an idea of the
numbers. Following on from the Nationals, this will be an opportunity to
further extend our Australian hospitality to the visiting team so we are
hoping as many as possible can attend. If you could advise by return email
whether you are looking to come to this shoot it would be greatly
appreciated to help the planning.

(PS details on accommodation etc in Coonabarabran can be found on the
Coonabarabran page on the match rifle website
http://www.matchrifle.org/Ranges/Coonabarabran.htm, The GB team are booked
into the Acacia Motor Lodge at 2009 prices from the Friday night and the
Motor Lodge has indicated they will do the same for other shooters who book
in the near future. The other accommodation shown (including camping ground)
are all in the centre of town so walking distance to pubs and restaurants.)

This is a shoot I have been looking forward to for a while now. Count me in. Might need some more offset inserts in my rings for a bit more elevation I think.

Sounds fantastic, but is only a week after the Vic Queens, so may need to choose between them.
