Mt latest modified stock!

#1 Postby DenisA » Fri Jun 06, 2014 9:19 pm

Hi All,

I've just got my latest stock that I've modified back from being painted. It's a Savage factory F-class stock, the same as my previously modified black one, though I've been more conservative as this red ones a free recoil type stock where the black stock is obviously all about control.

They're both in 2 pack.

The modifications include a deeper palm swell to suit a lefty, Devcon bedding, weight in the butt, the toe's been straightened out and I've cut bag riders into the forend.
The barrel and action tang are heavily free floated which is important for Savages.

Prior to painting, I shot it prone with the 6BR which is fitted in the pics and it's FANTASTIC. Far better than the original design.

Bag riders in forends make stability on the front rest so much better and recoil so smooth.

Being red, I can't wait to chronny it and see how much more MV I get

Denis, looks very good, however, if you go to SA, you may need to pimp it up with some stickers etc.

Reloading room also looks good.

Hope it shoots as good as it looks, I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Cheers
Danny

Thanks Danny, I like to keep an un cluttered reloading space. Take special note of the CHEAP Bunnings bench that had to be bolted and bracketed to the ground and all the coffee cup stains from many'a late night.

Will GT stripes be sufficient for SA or would I need to attach fluffy dice from the end of the barrel that may also serve to dampen barrel vibration. all 100 pairs of them.

Denis. Your gun room is in the house by the look of the pics?
It took me 32 years to get my reloading room in the house!!

Great job Denis . That is a good looking paint job
Looks like our South Australian brothers and sisters may have a worthy opponent here in the great State of Queensland.
We will vote you in officially as "Pimp Master" .
Pleased to hear it shoots too :D =D> :D
Extreme accuracy and precision shooting at long range can be a very addictive pastime.

Thanks Tony. I should say that I haven't pioneered the red stock. I saw at Bundy that PhilD has one that is REALLY similar in colour. This was already in getting painted by the time I saw Phil's.

I figure if I cant shoot and win, I may as well lose with a shiny stock. It might take the focus away from my scores.

Denis, I love checking out others new gear. Will this bad boy make an appearance at the NRAA queens?

I won't be shooting this stock at the Nationals. I have my technique down pat and holding great waterline at the moment with the black stock.
This stock will only be for the 6BR (if it proves itself). I'll need a few more club shoots before I can confirm or deny that free recoiling my 6BR prone bares better results than hugging down on the black one.

It's definitely a better bench stock than the black one.

I'm interested to see if the harmonics and effect on load are different between the two stocks. If not, it may be a great load testing aid.

Where did you get the savage stocks from, I am looking to get one to have a tinker with for the 308 ftr I have.
Thanks

Ian, they're the factory stocks that came with the rifles.
