Target Rifle Stock Modification - services needed.

#1 Postby Gerard » Mon Jun 06, 2016 2:26 pm

Hi Guys,

I have been so far, unsuccessful in finding a decent replacement stock with the features I need, so next option is to have my wooden stock modified.

I need an adjustable cheek rest and adjustable butt stop done, possibly also removing some material from the trigger grip area.

Is there anyone that people would recommend that does (very good quality) work in the Gatton/Toowoomba/Ipswich/West Brissy area?

The rifle is an Angel M80 (righthand) with LWS stock.

I can source the materials if necessary. Hoping to find someone with experience in doing quality work on Target rifle stocks, who has the knowledge to modify the stock to suit my stature.

Many thanks to anyone who can point me in the right direction.

cheers,
Gerard.

Doc Morris at Cities club Brisbane is your man - doc as in the stock doctor. He's made about any decent wood stock you see i=on Belmont any Saturday afternoon.

Haven't a phone number for him, but QRA might be able to help you out. They're 33984309

Met with Doc today and he showed me some of the work he is doing.
I am extremely impressed with his quality of workmanship.
Based on what I saw I was very happy to have him do the work.

Thank you for the recommendation :)

So just wanted to update here incase other locals are deliberating over having their stock 'doctored'.

This stock was made by the Doc. I supplied him with the English walnut slab and a stock that I wanted the profile copied. The workmanship is 1st class.

Cheers,
Ryan Neilsen.

Details of this rifle;
Barnard P action in 308.
English walnut stock by Lynn Morris (aka the stock doctor)
Stock timber slab supplied by Roger Vardy
Tom Canty v-block
Border 32" 5R barrel
Warner rear sight
Sumo Front sight (by me).

Thanks for sharing Ryan, thats very tidy.
Love everything about that rifle (well.. other than Im right handed).
It just says excellence..

What is the idea with the adjustable front sight?
I assume it means that you can then use a rear sight which is calibrated to make much smaller increments?
1/8 MOA per click or something perhaps?

Separately, thanks for sharing your front ring size guides. As it turns out, the suggested sizes when using a .5 eagle eye have been a very good(perfect) match for my eyes. (for imperial ranges that is. Im still trying to figure out the best matches for metric, trial and error.. much error ha ha..).
I also use a 6m and 8m range practice target (scaled down print of imperial targets that you set at 6-8metres away) at home in the hall for dry fire practice It is a great way for beginners to prep with relative sight image. I think that scaled down target may also have originated from you? If so, do you happen to have a metric version? (Happy to purchase).

cheers,
Gerard.
