Whitens hydro die use water which is quite messy so as a alternative any suggestions on what to replace it with and is common to find.

A little concerned that metho compressed could have the diesel effect.

I used vegetable oil. I found that it formed the cases quite well but was still pretty messy.

A local Pool/Chemical shop sells it by the gallon but I do not think it is a good candidate.
This is actually Anhydrous stuff and good for cleaning lenses thus leaving no residue.

I suspect water is better. No matter what you use it will be messy and require through cleaning out and drying.
