new rear sight questions.

#1 Postby scott/r » Tue Nov 25, 2014 4:58 pm

I am in the process of buying a new rear sight for my target rifle and am wondering if anyone has had any dealings with the Canty sight. Are they rebuildable like the t-mac, which is my other option. Basically, I'm just chasing a bit of advice on if the Canty is as good as the t-mac. The price doesn't factor into it as they are only $20 different from each other and both are on the shelf at the q store.

Tom Canty who makes the Canty sight made t-mac sights with Herb McRorie. Currently, apart from manufacturing his own sight he rebuilds & upgrades Centrals & t-macs. He'd be good to rebuild his Canty sight if needed, but bear in mind that he isn't getting any younger.

Well my old central sight finally decided it didn't want to play any more during the opm at warwick the other weekend, so I ended up picking up one of Tom Canty's rear sites from the q-store during the week. I got to have a shoot through it yesterday at our christmas shoot at narc. Now bearing in mind that I've only been shooting t/r consistantly since early August, so I don't have much to compare this sight to, I must admit that I am very happy with my purchase. It was comfortable straight away, on the eye and for adjusting. We only shoot one 15 shot match for our chrissy shoot, but gave me a new p/b of 74.7 Well actually it was 81.2 because we all score f/class scores for christmas just to give the scope shooters a chance haha.
Anyway, I'm more than impressed with the Canty rear sight and can't wait to give it another run.

No it was at 600. I'd only been shooting t/r for about 4 months at that stage.
