TR Twist rates.

Hello all,

I am just chasing some popular twist rates that the TR fraternity use these days. Is a 1-12 twist more popular than a 1-11 twist? and also light palma contour and standard / medium palma contour? which is preferred?

I've been considering rebarrelling my FS rifle recently & get the impression that 12 twist safely covers the range of approved projectiles. Then again, if you were considering F/TR as well, there's a lot to be said for 11 twist's ability to handle up to 210 Bergers.

I'm looking at medium Palma contour at 30"ish, mainly because that covers the full range of available manufacturers, including Maddco. Choice is a tad problematic at the moment

11" or 12" will work fine with all bullet weights up to 190grn.

I don't think he's asking about heavy bullets, just what the typical TR barrel specs are. I'd imagine you'd have a good idea of the most popular twists and profiles?

I've run 1-13T which I think is marginal for the 155 bergers. Centre count improved with 1-12 & 1-11T. using 155gn Bergers in both.
As Keith stated, 1-12 or 1-11 will be fine, plus 1-11 gives you options down the road. Longer barrel I found best at 32" usable lenght but this was more to do with sight radius/sighting for TR. I used both Light & medium contours. Not much different as the .308 is not that fussy & easy to tune.

Alan, my post states bullet weights UP to 190grns. As a matter of fact I have fitted 10" twist barrels to Queens Prize winning F std rifles. Having said that I prefer to recommend 12" twist for all of the 155grn crop of bullets.
