Newbie ammo question.

#1 Postby Quick » Tue Oct 07, 2008 4:16 pm

Please forgive the complete newbie question that follows. What is velocity of the factory NRAA 155gr ammo that the NRAA gets cheap for us? I thought it could be around 2600fps but im not think its closer to the 2800fps mark. Can some one please help me. Its been nagging me for a few hours now and I can't seem to find it.

And can some one please tell me what it is loaded as, powder, etc.

I believe it gets around 2950fps in a 30" barrel. This is the generally accepted velocity most are searching for to shoot out to 1000yds.

Of course your barrel length will impact on this. I recall that every inch is worth about 70fps.

I'm sure others will be able to verify these numbers

So is it faster as the barrel is shorter or slower? Isnt it the shorter, the faster the round travels.

Generally velocity increases with longer barrels and gets slower with shorter.

I thought it was the oppisite. Whats the twist rate on the standard Omark barrels.

Again, this would be a stab in the dark but I would say that they would be 1:12 or 1:13.

Velocity goes up with a longer barrel and drops with a shorter barrel. As I said, ~70fps per inch of barrel as a general guide.
