600yd Bench rest

Hi all F class shooters,
Something of interest to you all. Townsville Marksman Rifle Club through The Nth. Qld. Rifle Asoc. has lodged the I.B.S. 600 yd. B/R rules to be included in the Aust. S.S.Rs. This is to compliment the 1000 yd. rules we now have. These are un-altered I.B.S. rules not like the bastardised Aust. 1000 yd. rules which are in use at the moment.
Being only 600 yds. just about every full bore range in Australia will be able to shoot this match if they wish. All that is needed is a couple of sturdy portable benches, a couple of dedicated target frames and some targets which can be purchased from I.B.S.in America.
This is another event to make further use of rifle ranges, and further income for clubs who decide to shoot the event.
For this to happen we need to show our support for this event to the N.R.A.A. management. To do this, get your club to lobby them through your local and State Associations.
If this gets up, maybe a major shoot like the Narromine-Dubbo Southern Cross 100 yd. Championship could happen. It would be good to run it in conjunction with the Narromine shoot and make it a four day shoot. After all most Queens and Nationals run this long, and make the trip to Narromine more worth while.
Put some thought into this , discuss it with other shooters and if in favour, get it through your local club to put further fore ward on.

Exactly. What Ned said. There are a 100 ranges which can cater to 600yd BR.

The Cairns and Inland District Rifle Assoc. has shown support for the introduction of this event. Hopefully more will show their support for this event.

as i have mentioned previously and elsewhere, we support the introduction of the 600yd IBS rules to the SSR's and once it is legitimised, we will be introducing this discipline to the narromine dubbo range.

from any perspective, given the concerns with present and future NRAA membership numbers, the acceptance and introduction of IBS 600yd BR by the NRAA, can in my opinion, only be a positive move.!!!!!!!!

who knows, apart from generating interest from present NRAA members and clubs, it might boost membership by enticing new members and possibly provide an alternative attraction for many present fly shooters, enabling them to accept and undertake the challenges associated with this discipline, and as a bonus, they would be able compare their results directly with the many clubs in the USA which presently host 600yd BR.

(and down the track, it might even result in 600yd BR postal matches with USA ?????)

The future of full bore ( read as centre fire ) in this country can only be assured by unconditional acceptance of, and participation in, disciplines such as 600 yd IBS.
To deny the need to do this is simply blind negligence.
The world of full bore goes way beyond TR, FC and MR and the days of " we only do it this way " are well and truly gone.
You either diversify or die.

Seems that weight and muzzle breaks are the main differences (yes I realise there are many more)

600 yards in clear air would be a great test and good training for all shooters.

Plenty of scopies willing to have a play. And of course with local SSAA shooters around, this could boost numbers

The 600 yd. rules are almost the same as the 1000 yd. rules. They can be found on the I.B.S. site. Only practice shots are spotted, the record targets are shot blind. This is what makes the challenge for men not wimps.

Talking about wimps why would you need a muzzle brake on an unlimited weight heavy gun??
