UK F Class Standard under threat

#1 Postby Ken L » Fri Nov 02, 2007 7:12 am

:( :( :(
If the UK MOD insist on their revised muzzle energy limits in the UK then it will see the end of 7.62 as a target round on UK Ranges. The 7.62 Nato round from a barrel over 26 inches will exceede the limit
See
www.nra.org.uk Potentialy serious problem for civillian shooters.

F Open with 6mm and 6.5 will meet the requirements providing they don't use verry hot loads and FS and TR will be limited to 5.56 Nato

Here are my calculations on maximum allowable muzzle velocity for various bullet weights if the proposed restriction of muzzle energy to 3800 Joules is enacted :

I'm not sure what proportion of UK ranges this would apply to. If Bisley is affected it would be disastrous.

Based on this, most 26inch barrels will deliver around 2800-2870 fps for the 155gn 308.

Maybe FS is going to become a short barrel class over there. Problem is how long is it going to be before its law here ?

The bigger open calibers are going to be badly effected.

And what about Match rifle in the UK ?
MBRC F-Class standard ... and proud of it!

If you delete 1000 yds then 2854 f/s or less ( 2840 ) is ample to 900 yds with a 155 grn projectile in .308.
It's that last 100 yds ( 900 to 1000 ) that causes the problems where you lose 120/ 130 f/s
. I have found that 2930 is sufficient to get me to 1000yds at sea level so 130 ft less is 2800 which easily makes 900 yds.
Match rifle shooters are the ones who will be most affected.
At 2854 f/s a 28" barrel would be ideal.

All ranges that do not have an open classification and that would mean ones with out a 5.6 Km + danger zone'
Even private ranges come under the MOD rules as they are inspected by the Military.
It is interesting to google earth Altcar range just north of Liverpool it has the sea as its danger zone and yet it falls under the prohibition.
Methinks there is skulduggery at work here.
At least we are under the control of state regulations and we can have a better impact on these rather than the Federal.

On another side maybe we should be looking to take over the 2009 FCWC if the Poms cant shoot anymore :D :D :D

The way things are going if the worst comes to the worst then the Poms may well be restricted to FO competition with 142 gn 6.5 being the max that can be used.

Maybe we should sent then some FO targets to practice on.
 :)

I am thinking that in the future maybe FO will be the Comm Games choice of rifle. Now wont that boost the FO numbers :D :D :D
