Before we start analysing WHY those average scores are different it would be prudent to determine IF they're different. I'm not sufficiently motivated to do the number crunching but Student's t would be a good starting point.

Because of the limits we face such as rifle weight, energy (at most ranges) etc., I believe bullet BC and accuracy are our main hopes for better wind performance in future. Most of the big bullet manufacturers are really lifting their game recently, probably in response to Berger's success. Much better to get improvement from bullets than from increased velocity, with its many disadvantages (recoil, barrel life, case life etc.). For example a Sierra 183gn only needs to do 2880fps to match a Berger 180gn Hybrid at 2950fps in the wind.

Saw a sample of the new Sierra 197gr 7mm a couple of weeks ago.

The sierra website recommends a 7.5 twist... I have an 8 twist on one of my saums
