Re: Which action is best - 2/3 or 4 lug?

I'm far from against a 3 lug Barnard. In fact I'm in the process of having the gun plumber assemble one as we speak :-) The main factors for going down this path against another BAT were price and availability of the action and also parts. Everything from springs, rails, stocks etc etc are much chea...

Re: Which action is best - 2/3 or 4 lug?

I like my BAT model M 2 lug actions. They are a little heavy but they have a huge amount of primary extraction and will make light work of a stubborn case if required.

I'd rather sacrifice a little bolt throw for increased extraction reliability and don't the feel it's any disadvantage in F class.

Re: One gun or more?

No one has mentioned the good old 300WSM I had 2 loads sorted for mine, 190 gn VLD for ranges to 600 then the 210gn VLD for the longer rangers Both projectiles had the same 300 zero and the 190 had a straighter flatter trajectory out to 600 if memory serves me right. Then the 210 drifted less out t...

Re: LABRADAR - Just how good are they? - some more testing

Good too see your back on deck Peter, Could I be controversial and say they (Labradar) are a bit finicky to set up?? we used 2 together at Lower Light some weeks ago and I thought why bother as no amount of adjusting and one unit wouldn't read at all. Is this normal?? Geoff They can be a bit fiddle...

Re: Load tune vs barrel tune

OK bit of an update! I've had a chance to get back to the range and repeat the testing 1000 and at this range the velocity is definitely starting to have more effect. Loads with 25fps ES would struggle to hold 6 ring while those with around 15fps or better AND good barrel tune were around X ring or ...

Re: Thoughts on small rifle primers being used in .284 brass

Could you just offset the potential small primer ignition "problem" by using a small mag primer?

Effectively your still using a mild primer in a large case so ES may not be affected in the same way as using a mag primer in a 223 case for example.

Re: Load tune vs barrel tune

I have always previously loaded for accuracy with very little or no regard for ES. I've always done my testing at mid to long range and achieved mostly "acceptable" results while continuously looking for ways to improve. After developing several barrels to what I felt were the best they co...

Load tune vs barrel tune

What I mean by load tune vs barrel tune is how many of you are tuning for accuracy with little or no regard for ES and purely looking for accuracy and who of you are tuning your loads for low ES and maybe adjusting barrel tuner later?? I have been messing around with a couple of new barrels lately w...

Re: What's going on here?

Did you make adjustments before it "settled" or did it just settle back to original sighting position? I have also seen scope issues where the reticle movement effectively stops while winding the turret and then re starts or jumps creating a dead spot with erratic tracking. Not saying this...

Id be staying well away from anyone who mounts a scope like that! Shows that at least one link in the chain has NFI!

I'm glad it wasn't worse

Re: Lets play a game !!

I have one myself and testing it against the magneto speed and agreed they seem to be accurate and reliable.

I was just curious what you were using as a chronograph as you have decimal points on your speeds as mine only shows whole units?

Re: Lets play a game !!

Are the velocities your getting from an ET? Is this accurate enough to give reliable measurements?

From what I've seen FO calibers pushing the high BC bullets at high velocity hold accuracy out to 800ish yds even with often poor ES.

Re: Cream of Wheat fire forming ?

I while ago I used to use pistol powders with a toilet paper plug and cases formed 90% of the way but then I started to wonder about what it was doing to the rifling, just skipping over the top like that, maybe nothing but I didn't want to risk it with good barrels after that. Now I just use trail ...
