Re: Rear plate?

Rule 20.2.5 rear rest (e) the way I read it, would make any mechanical adjustment to a rear plate either laterally or vertically illegal. ...as long as you read that in conjunction with (b). The way I judge it is that you can, for example , have friction tight washers on spikes & could vary the...

Then again, there were those of us who used our full name on OZ F Mark 1 & were offered a nom de plume when the second iteration got going.

.308 Headspace

If I understand the SAAMI diagram correctly, headspace is measured at a notional point on the shoulder where it is .400" diameter, the acceptable range at that point being 1.630-1.640". A matching case/cartridge should measure 1.627-1.634", eg: http://forums.thecmp.org/showthread.php?...

Re: International talk like a pirate day !!!

Talk like a West Country lad, it seems: http://dialectblog.com/2011/05/24/pirate-accent/ And continuing the story of accents, back a good few years a friend was holidaying in Cornwall & drinking scrumpy in a pub one night. After a time, a local whom he described as wearing a shepherd's smock &am...

Re: Several primers not showing much pin strike

On the subject of primers. I have a carton of Federal GM210M in which there are some primers with a yellow compound and not the usual red colour. Lot # 2G220. Has any one seen any of these. The yellow ones are not used. Not the first time that's happened. Back when I used GMs, I came across a brick...

Re: Several primers not showing much pin strike

Lack of pin strike suggests either that the primer is too far away from the firing pin as already suggested or that you have a burr or foreign matter in the bolt that's slowing the firing pin fall. Wash & lightly oil after checking. Also worth checking is if the sear piece on the firing pin is r...

I've begged a number of 5cc stent syringes with screw on caps from hospital nurses in my time. They're good for a number of greasing possibilities.

Re: CCI Primers

There are a number of threads about the place in recent time denigrating CCI primer, but in all instances with sketchy information. Perhaps it might be worthwhile to do some comparitive measurements of current issue primers compared to older ones, likewise from brand to brand. There's always the pos...

Re: Modern bedding for a Sportco Model 44?

Had a friend who shot his Omarks off machined, stress relieved & ground steel inserts before Barnard blocks were thought of. It worked for him, but cost him a bucketload. There were cast ally blocks made for Omarks which didn't provide for the tang ir the barrel butt, but I didn't get around to ...
