Lynn, In a way I wish it did mean that. No there is nothing for F-Open and based on current numbers its not surprising. We had an F-Std teams event for the first time last year, and now a Ch of Ch. But mark my words, I don't plan to rest until F-Open becomes as popular here as it is is N Queensland....

Vic F-Standard Champion of Champions

I've heard that there will be an F-Class Std category at Bendigo in October for the first time. Great news =D>! Now if all States did likewise, we could have an inter-State Champion of Champions \:D/ .

Simon, Good question, and one that a lot of people ask, and are surprised at the answer. From what I understand, you can't use anything other than one or two sandbags in either Std or Open. I'm not sure how that rule came about - multiple sandbags don't work well for me. Hopefully this is one aspect...

RESULTS

http://www.qldrifle.com/2005_M34.htm Well, John was there as expected. He finished a repectable 7th in a good field of 12 Open shooters. Karl Bell =D> edged out fellow Brisbanite Barry Lewis to take out the F-Open. And in Standard, Victorian Tom Lowndes =D> prevailed, with Alan Tayor and Peter Hayd...

I spoke to Noel Osborn from my own club yesterday. He competed in F-Standard in the SARA Queens last year. I told him it would be on the championship target, and although he is disppointed that the change hasn't yet been publicised, he still intends to be there. Unless the change is made known widel...

Bruce,

Good idea. I hope you get a better response than the Qld and NSW posts. I believe you will - SA shooters seem to be very "web savvy".

Tony, If your Omark has a good barrel, and is bedded well, it will do fine in F-Class Standard with a suitable scope and bipod. Most use the aluminium A type bipods in Victoria, but others think that Harris are good. Better to get a scope with 30mm tube if you can, but with a 20 to 30 minute sloping...

RB, That is a very big difference :-k . It has to be either a crook chrono, or some major component that is different. Are you sure everything else is the same - e.g. definitely the same barrel (I've seen people forget they changed!). Could it be your powder scale? You haven't got your 168 gr projec...

Matt, Ken, how about changing calibres every shot - I'd like to see that!

Not that I doubted it would happen, but its good to see you've got the beginnings of a competitive field. Just make sure you all keep a few rounds for Canberra! :)

Chris, This is the general method that Dave Tooley (in case you don't know, one of the best 1000 yd BR shooters in the US) uses : Use either ladder testing or 5 shot groups at increasing loads to pick a good powder charge. Then experiment with seating depth using that charge. If you can't get good e...

Good on you John for making the effort to get there, and for letting us know. Will you be using heavier projectiles in the .243AI? When it gets the gremlins sorted, the new 115 DTAC would suit that cartridge. By the way we don't have many forum members from the Brisbane area yet, so when you get the...

Matt, While I did question your going to 7mm Mag or .300 Mag in F-Class, that wasn't necessarily saying you shouldn't go above 6.5mm. If you're more concerned about 1000 yd performance, then the straight .284 Win is a definite contender, esp. since the availability of the 175grSMK. Recoil is accepta...

If you are please say so, and it may encourage others to join you.

Matt,

Sorry I'm not actually addressing your question, but why are you considering the 7mm Rem and 300 Win magnums. I ask that because (a) they are both belted (which can be problematic) and (b) both high in recoil. Are you intending to build it to any weight limits?

Alan :-k
