Hello again, Well the ACT Queens has been run and won, its Monday night and I guess most of us are back to our everyday lives. The last day was pleasant weather for being outside, but quite tricky for shooting, even at at 5 and 600m, with winds generally from behind, and varying quickly in speed and...

I am sorry that this is being publicised - it has been kept quiet up till now more out of respect for the parties in the dispute rather than myself, and of course it does not give a good impression of us as a group to have disputes aired on the forum. The main reason for the ban on Bill was that leg...

Hello again from Canberra, Well, here we are at end of day 2, with the long ranges behind us. Weather was difficult as expected, and everyone got some of it in every shoot. Some just handled it better than others (e.g. Matt Paroz and Darren Chapman). Results . To add to the variety there was a 20 mi...

Hello again from Canberra, Firstly, to you highly political SA people, I have just posted on the Rules and the Future forum at http://ozfclass.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=233&start=75&sid=29692e3ddd3a6d2e9aeab324d636f623 . That is the right place for your concerns. Please do not hijack this t...

Hello from Canberra day 2 (still 3 to go \:D/ !). The Rolph was decided today - a deserving win to Steve Southwell =D> , especially given he's never shot at this range before. He screwed on a 6.5-284 barrel for the 2 800m ranges, and continued on where he left off with the 6BR. Incidentally he uses ...

Tony, Lynn, Sorry about not catering for F-Std, but when you're competing in F-Open you tend to mingle with F-Open. You could always recruit an F-Std shooter to phone through some gossip, then post that. I'm afraid you F-Std types are just going to have to "get your house in order" Alan :)

Hello again from Canberra. Well the competition was tough but the weather was even tougher. You only need to look at the 300m scores to know how tough. The wind was a headwind varing in direction and strength - it got easier as the day wore on but most strangers to this range (such as me) struggled....

ACT F-Open Diary

To all F-Open members who couldn't make it to Canberra : Over the next few nights I will post a brief report on the day's events. Of course you will be able to see a full results sheet on http://www.canberrarifleclub.org.au/CRC_ACT_Rifle_Championship_Results_2005.htm , but I will try to give some ad...

Barry, A very pleasing roll-up \:D/, particularly F-Open - I didn't know there were that many in the State! Congrats to Castlemaine, and to the badge winners =D> . Another event coming up (not yet in ozfclass.com Event Calendar), is the Geelong OPM (indoor mound) early next year. Barrie Wright has c...

Tony, From my moderate mount of experience, moly helped to rescue a 6.5 barrel which was coppering up badly right from the start. I now have 2 identical Kreiger 6.5 barrels which do not copper excessively. I use exclusively moly Scenars in one, and naked SMKs in the other. I can't see much advantage...

Barry, I guess I meant a convoy from all directions (hmm.... not really the right word was it). I saw Bill at Bendigo about 3 weeks ago - he didn't say anything about Canberra - he has a young family and doesn't seem to travel much to shoot. If you want to catch up with him you know what you'll have...

Good thinking Dave - especially important at 300. In fact if you can afford it, I think everyone should have a new centre at 300, to reduce the likelihood of patches interfering with gauging.

Matt, I've never weighed my 6.5 but I asked KHGS to make it legal for LG and I'm sure he did that. I use free recoil (i.e. only trigger finger and opposing thumb touching the rifle) and while my long-range results (how shall I put this?) - have some potential for improvement  , my short-range a...

Tony,

What was the reason for the 30 minute break? I agree that 10 shot groups tell you much more than 5, but I'm wondering how much of the windage spread is due to a change in conditions before and after the break.
