Re: Ogive to base measurement.

What does "ogive to base " prove after all? It does not necessarily consistently fix seating depth of a loaded round. That depends upon the diameter at which the seating cone picks up the projectile. I have seen projectiles from different batches with the same " base to ogive " b...

Re: Which caliber to ahoot for new shooter

True that rifles all cost about the same, but then --
Big variations in cost in what you put on top and underneath. -- for example a $1200 Leupold or a $4000 something else.
a $200 bipod or a $2000 plus rest ?
Don't see the level playing field there.
FTR is about as level as it gets.

Re: Handicap system

Your first sentence covers it Alan. But,there is no good handicap systems,--too many variables. 300 yard handicaps are no good for 900 yds and vice versa -as an example. There are many other variables. Some competitors ( at club level ) actually do shoot to maintain high handicaps, as David said. Ag...

Re: Handicap system

Does handicap work any better than grading? Problem with handicap systems is that when the maximum score is reached by more than one competitor a result is usually determined by percentage of handicap saved --big mistake as in 99.5% of cases the scratch shooter wins --handicap system is therefore de...

Re: Testing the Testing

All this concern about case capacity variation can be easily checked. ( 308 anyway ) Simply load some Winchester cases and check against either Lapua or ADI cases with the same load specifications. The difference between these cases is around 1.5 grains powder weight /capacity. Lapua is about 1.5 la...

Re: Testing the Testing

Try spherical powder-- granule size is down to around half a mm --gives very consistent case volume measurements.
Use spent primers in backwards.

You have not removed my " comfort blanket " Josh---I still have it--staying home isolated from those who would otherwise recklessly take their chances, and in doing so risk passing the virus on to others.

The decision by VRA council to postpone is a responsible one. Difficult, disappointing, but highly responsible.

Re: Queens

Peter,
ZERO risk would be better. I metre for a few seconds is all it takes.
500 is BS, all it takes is two. Who sanitizes the chalk and score cards, the dunny door etc
The GP was an outdoor event.
Why take the risk?

Re: Reading mirage

Hi Scott, The problem with too high a scope power ( above 20x ) is that all you do see is mirage. Where exactly you pick it up in relation to the target is anyones' guess. Mirage in itself does not contribute much error --about 1moa in the worst of conditions. Wind is still the killer. If there is m...
