Re: The Future

To be Honest though the PRS shooters are still a very small number of the total shooters if you take their number by the amount of shooters in the SSAA. Then there are those that are not shooting. Perhaps try attract the shooters that are not already committed to a discipline they enjoy. The PRS see...

Re: The Future

I know the VRA is targeting Juniors very heavily. This would be the correct target group if the majority of the members were younger and had juniors. The fact is that the majority of the VRA members are much older. IMHO the target group to attract new members from is the 40-50 year old range. They m...

Williada with reference to your comment "whatever you do never wrap a rag around a nylon, brass or wool mop and add paste. Its a complete NO, NO." What is the correct procedure when using a paste like JB or KG2? Sorry to go off topic.

Re: Ultrasonic Cleaning of Barrels

You could certainly build a tank and attach this to it to create an ultrasonic cleaner. I have seen professional cleaners that just have a couple of large transistors mounted to the tank, these transistors are then switched to the frequency desired. It is just their mechanical movements that operate...

Re: Barrel Behaviour Theory

williada slightly on a tangent to this topic but related is I often wondered if a barrel tuner was in fact helping more with the job of acting like a crown than anything else. Is a larger crown face going to help set up that pressure wave behind the projectile and improve its accuracy? I wonder when...

Re: Barrel Behaviour Theory

Peter sorry if my posts seem argumentative they are not intended to be. My written communication leaves lots of room for improvement. I have an electrical / electronic background and have dealt a lot with harmonics on the power grid. I understand the higher frequency has more energy for a given ampl...

Re: Barrel Behaviour Theory

Peter Wikipedia describes inertia as: “Inertia is the resistance of any physical object to any change in its position and state of motion. This includes changes to the object's speed, direction, or state of rest. Inertia is also defined as the tendency of objects to keep moving in a straight line a...

Re: Barrel Behaviour Theory

Peter I dont understand why you are so fixated with the standing wave. As you have shown any traveling wave will cause a deflection of the barrel. That traveling wave will reflect back and forward until its amplitude has dampened down due to the energy being converted to other forms of energy. Those...

Re: Barrel Behaviour Theory

Ok if we take just the speed of sound as the first component of causing waves at 19000 fps it takes 1.57*10-4 to travel the 3ft. The bullet takes 1ms. So in this 1ms time period the speed of sound can reflect a total of 3 times to the muzzle end and back (6.3 in total) Therefore we dont need to look...

Re: Barrel Behaviour Theory

I would argue the point re the action being free to move. I would have said that the clamped free would fit the rifle better. The action is pretty well bedded and then pulled pretty tight into that bedding. Surly that is a clamped end?
