Re: Siera hunting projectiles any good?

In my experience, the 150gn Sierra's are great for Fallow sized deer. I have shot plenty of them with the soft point 150gn Game Kings and they have performed exceptionally well at ranges of 50-400m. I tried the 130gn hollow points and found them to be too frangible on Fallow deer on shoulder shots (...

I have had this happen before. Doing a thorough++ clean of both the collet insert (ie the slots that form the collet) and the internal area of the die in which the taper is formed. If you have any slight burrs or embedded material, it can jam the collet as you have experienced. This will most likely...

I have done both too but prefer the metho as it flashes off in seconds - it was good when I had less time than desired!

I have the Lyman system - I have not noted any damage (scratching or peening) to the bullets in any way.

So what was the final brass forming method? Turn all the way down the neck and jam a bullet then use a soft primer? Or false shoulder method? If you are asking me.......I use false shoulder, fire form then just clean the necks up. My lapua runs at 0.014 - 0.015 after forming so I clean up to 0.014....

Excellent! Can I ask what type of stocks those are & where you got them? I'm seriously thinking about making some changes in my stable and will need an F-class type stock for the rifle in question. I spent some time in the heat today turning (read clean up) some necks on some fire formed cases t...

a 6mm super lr might clean up your chamber.
if not the barrel can be shortened to compensate, and that will give you a very fresh throat.
keep safe,

Awesome - you won't be disappointed!!!

I'd be interested in hearing about the throating you end up with and how that matches with the range of projectiles available. Those hybrids look interesting to me......can u tell I'm keen to shoot mine again?? :P

Thanks Simon C there is a little bit involved it it but probably not as bad as l think.Have you fire formed by just shooting a BR in the Dasher .And it sounds like you have had a good run out of your barrel at a guess what would you think the round count was. The fire forming is easy! All you will need is a 6.5mm mandrel or expander (eg a 6.5x55 die) and your selected neck bushing. Expand and then partially neck size with the die screwed right out. Slowly advance the die until you can just chamber the case. I also got an OAL gauge case made so I could tr...
