Re: 6.5 SLR

It’s my aim to burn a few 6.5x284 barrrels in my time just to say I had one!! I personally don’t find my straight 284 with 180’s any more difficult to control or slower to shoot than my 6.5x47 shooting 130’s (note I cannot seem to master free recoil so shoot them both with a hold) Also at the shorts...

Re: 6.5 SLR

I wonder if the release of these heavy 150gr 6.5mm pills will revive interest in the 6.5-284?

Would seem to be the logical choice to get those pills up to speed.

Re: 6.5x47 FIRE FORMING

Work up to 37.5 gr of 2208 with the Berger 130VLD, you should find good accuracy even while using fresh brass. I have found virgin brass to be very accurate in my 6.5x47 and would use it in club competition or midrange OPM. If you want it to be a little more consistent maybe you could run a 6.5mm ex...

Re: Is the .284 obsolete now?

We recently had a NSW teams practice at 900 and 1000yards. Besides one 284shehane we are using either SAUM or straight 284win Under coached conditions the 284's seemed to be holding better vertical than the SAUM. Whether that be because the 284 is easier to handle or that the SAUM is a little more t...

Re: 130 gn for 6.5x47 Lapua

Played with a new Bartlein on the weekend.

There is a node in there between 37.5 and 37.7 of 2208. Very similar to my Maddco but it looks like 37.7 is the go in this barrel!

37.5gr of 2208 jammed 0.010 works a treat in my Maddco.

Re: Starting loads for a 284win

Keith and Alan, have your found a go to seating depth for the Sierras? I have found with the VLD Bergers in my 6.5mm a 0.010 jam is the place to start. The 175 Sierras are looking attractive as hopefully i can jump them..... Question is where to start?? I am surprised the Sierra 180 does not give so...

Re: Starting loads for a 284win

Thanks so much for the good info Alan!!

With the light load for 'running in ' brass can I do it with the 175's or should i use something like a 162gr Amax?

Re: Starting loads for a 284win

Thankyou Alan. I will use the 175s and 50gr of 09 to get me started. People seem to have positive things to say about the 175's but not a lot to say about the 180Sierras. Are they worth trying?? Is it still worth running a light bullet and light load for the Initial firing? I have heard this prevent...

Re: Starting loads for a 284win

Alan Thanks for the info on the 175gr SMK, did you use 2209 with them?? What minimum charge weight would you start with in a Barnard action? Do you find sorting of the sierra's by bearing length necessary? Sierra's in 175 and 180gr seem to be a bit easier to come by than Bergers. I am hoping to find...

Starting loads for a 284win

G'day guys, long time lurker first time poster. I have been shooting F-open for a bit over 2 years now primarily just for fun at my local club and the occasional local prize meeting. I have got my 6.5x47L humming quite nicely now with possibles scores finally coming regularly. I have decided I want ...

Re: 7mm bullets, 180 hybrid, 183 Sierra 195 Berger

Besides Frank has anyone else got any experience with the 183 in a 9 twist cut rifle barrel. Chamber will be 284win.

Cheers

Ben.
