Re: 7mm SAUM Rechamber/Barrel Life

Hope not a stupid question, but how about moly? 215's in a 308 need moly to keep pressures down so I really have no option. That said checking my med palma 215 barrel which shoots amazingly and it has 1800 rounds on it, wear is minimal and hardly any fire cracking, so plenty of life in it yet and lo...

Re: Silver Mountain SOLO ET's

More tests done and next week time permitting will shoot maybe 30 shots and log file them and plot them. From Sunday shoot tests target picked up shots 2 targets away BUT they had a red triangle and an * next to score indicating rouge shot. Daniel said he is working on firmware update to eliminate t...

Re: New Barrel??

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. The barrel is Trueflite and had 2581 rounds through it. The Calibre is .308 I use 155gr Sierra Projectiles I use 45.8gn of AR2208 to get just under 3000ft/sec and I clean the barrel every time I use my rifle but I do not have good bore scope. It still shoots re...

Re: Silver Mountain SOLO ET's

SMT was set up correctly ie only score shots on target face but still having issues of it scoring shots from next door. Sent as requested backup file. So far not blown away with accuracy, but clearly something is amiss so hopefully issue is linked to both.

Re: New Barrel??

I depended a lot on the barrel too and I do wonder if moly does protect to some degree. I recently borescoped one of my .308 barrels that shoots 215 hybrids at 2700 fps which is just below the Belmont limit. This barrel is only a medium palma that dont normally work with 215 's and when I finish sho...

Re: Bullet Selection and Considerations (308)

Basically the lighter the bullet the lowere the ballistic coefficient (BC) ie the lower the BC the more air effects it either by slowing it down or pushing it sideways by the wind. Think of it like a mack truck vs an F1 car. The mack truck has a low BC and a lot of wind resistance and thr F1 car is...

Re: Silver Mountain SOLO ET's

Spoke to Aurbrey at SMT today and it seems we set the settings wrong in the setup menu there is a setting that says "All shots" which is what we have it set up on and we need to change the setting to only target face so that problem should be solved. Going to do tests tomorrow expecting ve...

Re: Silver Mountain SOLO ET's

Hi Barry, I don't know if you want info/commentary from me (part owner of SMT), or if you'd prefer I stay out and leave it strictly to the owners/users...? Just say the word and I'll step back and stay mum. SOLO is a low-cost "consumer" oriented design however you should expect to get top...

Re: Silver Mountain SOLO ET's

We are testing a Solo at the moment. First test showed errors but less than some of the errors shown in the test that Peter Smith and Dave had in early tests but error was still too much. The problem seemed to be that the target frame was sufficiently braced but the face itself was doing a wobble bo...

Re: Varying powder charge summer/winter?

Thanks rod. Did a little digging online and in extreme tests (below freezing to high 40’s) RL 15 looks to be about 3 times more sensitive than 2208. About 1.6fps per degree vs 0.5 However that’s a basic interpolation of minimum and maximum and assuming the change is linear. It would appear between ...

Me too ie paste seems to be needed to get all the carbon out, just hoping there is another way like soaking in something..

Re: Carbon cleaning methods curious after borescoping club barrels

Thanks guys, Yes I heard about carby cleaner too, that is a consideration. It seems with all solvents we are only getting most of the carbon out not all, cant help wondering if the problem is these products are not in the barrel long enough to penetrate the carbon. Dont know just a speculation. Whic...

Carbon cleaning methods curious after borescoping club barrels

I have been keeping carbon in check by cleaning maybe every 150-200 rounds and every other time ie around 400 rounds examining the barrel with a borescope and cleaning then lightly paisting to remove the excess carbon. This works fine but would love to be able to eliminate the abrasives if I could. ...

Re: New to reloading, what equipment route is best

I have Redding dies but found runout to be far better using a 30 odd dollar Lee collet die (neck die). Reason they work so well is a mandrel goes into the neck and deprimer lines it all up, then a collet closes round the outside of the neck sizing it. What this does is makes the INSIDE uniform not t...

Re: Wanted - 230gr Berger Hybrids

If you mess with 215's moly then and wet moly (pm me if you want to know how) and use Palm brass you wont have any issues with pressure. I dont know anyone who got 230's to work, not saying it is impossible but some of the best in Aus have tried and failed. 210vld's are the easiest heavies to get go...
