Re: 2 from LEFT FIELD

2. Has anyone altered flash holes to make them conical? There was a myth that the small holes in small primer pockets had a venturi effect, made them "spit holes". A myth long busted. If the flash hole was reamed to be conical, with the wide aperture (0.125) in the pocket and the narrow a...

Re: Federal 210 GM primers

So if the amount of wax varies, this could have a significant effect on results of weighing primers. BTW I've been using CCI BR-2s for a long time, and have never had a misfire due to primer failure. However there was a growing number of complaints about misfires with them, so I finally gave in and...

Re: Which caliber to ahoot for new shooter

Cost, the action came from my 308 CTR $1600 at the time but lets say $2000 now. The barrel was my old 6.5x284 rechambered but lets say $1000 for a new barrel. The chassis was $1200 new. So all up $4200. (I got a couple of mags from Wild Dog but can't remember how much $150 maybe) A scope for F class...

Re: Which caliber to ahoot for new shooter

Nobody said the Bergara is an F Class rifle ( not Petzal the author either ). It's not even close, never will be. Why is a Tikka better when it too will never be a competitive F rifle ? Petzal MAY have implied by just putting a fatter barrel on a Hybrid then you’re all ready for an F Class comp. Na...

Re: Which caliber to ahoot for new shooter

So moving on from calibre lets talk hybrid rifles. The Bergera. A Spanky rifle being marketed as a precision hunter. 9 5lb, mag fed, dual lug with a "separate floating bolt head to ensure contact with the lug abutments". Hmmm! For me thats 4 out of 4 no's for an F class rifle. Its not heav...

Re: Which caliber to ahoot for new shooter

Daniel, asking shooters which calibre always becomes an emmotive discussion. It would help to know where you currently sit with gear? Do you have a rifle? Do you reload? How much do you intent to spend and how quickly? Given the availability of both 308 and CM factory ammo you could go either way wi...

Re: Primer testing

Still getting my set up right. I put graph paper behind the results (1" with 1/2" sub divisions) and ended up back lighting that to reduce the visible smoke. I only have 2 LR primers on hand, Fed 210 and S&B LR. So far both seem very consistent but there is a notable difference between...

Re: Primer testing

Be a great time to test flash hole size, also a set of additional weights for the “hammer” as I’ve found value in admittedly limited testing of tuning firing pin spring strength, flash holes can be “shrunk” with a simple punch, good on you for attempting this, the photography and youtubiness is bey...

Re: Primer testing

Feel free to disclose the primers your testing and the batch numbers please Tim I will do Brad, These were just some Fed 210s (because I have a load) for setting up and testing the gear. The idea is to get a testing process set up so all tests are the same and can be compared to one another. I woul...

Re: The inevitable price rise is here

OTOH, Anything could happen ! Peter Smith. Quite right Peter, maybe, just maybe, Aussie pollies will realise that Australia is the only country on the planet that has everything within it's boarders to be self sufficient. We even have so much of some stuff we could sell what we don't need. Well, ne...
