Re: Longer life barrel steel from Bartlein?

Don't be surprised if your gunsmith charges a little more to fit, extra wear on tooling (in particular reamers) could be a problem. Especially at the moment, getting items out of other countries due to Covid 19 is becoming a real issue. Some items that took around a week to get from the US to Austra...

FYI, only thing I would add is when using brass from another chamber, this is very likely even after sizing.

Re: Scales

Redding no 2 beam scale under $200, or A&D FX300 or better (must be magnetic force restoration) $1000 plus and in my opinion nothing in between.

Re: Which caliber to ahoot for new shooter

Having been around this sport a little while here's my 2 cents worth. I would recommend using a club rifle for while, then if this sport is for you buy the best gear you can afford. Believe me it will work out MUCH cheaper in the long run, don't ask my wife how I know !! When I have new shooters/cus...

Re: RUN TOO FAST?

Or as some seem to think, just shoot really fast that way you don't have to read conditions !!    Awww, come on Matt, you and I and other shooters who can shoot fast know that that is not true. There is more to it than that, shooting quick (and well) usually means picking...

Re: 7mm RSAUM Reamer Questions

Dan That dia @ the 0.200 is fine and will work with off the shelf dies, my reamers are that and work very well with most batches of Norma brass and off the shelf sizing dies. The only real change I would make to that print is to lengthen the FB and tighten the neck a little (measured some brass and ...

Re: 7mm RSAUM Reamer Questions

The minimum you can get away with 183's SMK's is 0.170" with a 1.5 degree lead. The problem with the short FB is if the barrel doesn't like 183's it's too short for 180 Bergers, which really need around the 0.220" for the VLD's and around 0.200" for the Hybrid.

Re: 7mm Cartridge Predicament

Hi Dan I think the SAUM would be your best option, at best you would lose about an inch of barrel depending on how much wear in the barrel and how long the tenon thread is and if your smith is happy to "pick up" the existing thread if required. Depending on the length of the thread I'd sug...

Re: Cutting fluid

I use a flush system with Castrol Ilocut 170, I’ve run out and now using Rigid dark cutting fluid. The Rigid is pretty good but looking forward to the Ilocut becoming available.
