Re: a funny advertisement

pigdog,
you missed the point.
shooting gongs is not bone headed.
responding to a false advertisement that works because people do not think is boneheaded.
the ad would not be worded that way if it did not work.

Re: a funny advertisement

not quite sure what my lack of capitals and punctuation have to do with people falling for strange advertising claims.
or weighing projectiles for that matter.
does the comma between hurt and perhaps represent and example of what to strive for in the suggested pursuit?

a funny advertisement

just saw an ad for "precision gongs" on special. the two words have opposite meanings when it comes to shooting. they are even insufficient for zeroing a hunting rifle. gong shooters use those targets in order to avoid the pursuit of precision because it makes their brains hurt. obviously ...

Re: Does a plastic tip , mean I can get away with a slower twist ?

further to the above, experience has shown that you need to shoot the bullet in 100 yd/mt increments out to the full range. sometimes bullets will have a little wobble, and then straighten up again. this can be a problem, as when wobbling, b.c. goes down temporarily. not so bad if they all do it the...

Re: 6.5 x 284

a guy called ben davies did in our club, and it shot extremely well.
the big surprise was haw much more barrel life that rifle had than we all got with 2209.
he sold it to another guy and it just kept shooting well for ages.

creedMOOR.
named after the creedmoor range from whence palma and fclass derived their respective roots, in the 1870s.
named from farmer creed's moor, a swampy paddock the range was on.

"the nraa's cut" the bullet tax. rumour has it that there is discussion at high levels to limit fopen and ftr bullets, so a similar tax can be put in place. argument being that fstd and tr is shouldering an unfair financial burden compared to ftr and fopen. when thay had control of the tax...

Re: When does BC Adavtage , become a disadvantage?

b.c does not have to affect recoil, barrel wear, cost of powder, or retuning barrels. that is more to do with ammount of powder burned, except where higher b.c bullets, being heavier have more recoil. one advantage of higher b.c. bullets is that you can run them a bit slower than low b.c. bullets fo...

Re: Trail boss 357mag loads

macguru, in lever repeaters, marlins are the easiest to clean as you can remove the bolt easily. winchesters must be cleaned from the muzzle, which is not as bad as it sounds. a rod guide on the muzzle is adviseable, and supporting the rifle upside down is also good. black powder fouling will dissol...

Re: 7mm SAUM Rechamber/Barrel Life

and so the wheel goes round.
lee metford barrels were found to erode quickly with cordite, and william metford redesigned the rifling to be deeper, which became known as enfield rifling.
wear/erosion is probably the same, but more stuff to wear/erode takes longer.

Re: Trail boss 357mag loads

there is another approach available. in the time between all black and all smokeless, guys did what is called duplex loading. harry pope was one of these. work out the charge of black to fill the case to the base of the seated bullet. replace 1/10 the weight of it with a fast pistol powder, and top ...
