I do have a Q for anyone who may have an answer.

I had a shooter yesterday who at 300m shot ok, at 500m he used my rifle and everyone else had 2 mins of left wind on. I had 3.5 left and he was hiting in the 4 ring at 9-o-clock. I put another 2 mins left on and he hit same place at 9-o-clock (no wind change in strength or direction)

I wound it back to zero and put 2 mins left on ... 3-o-clock in the 4 ring.

I took over the rifle wound back to zero and put 1.5 mins left on and fired 3 shots, 5-6-6.

The next shooter on my rifle (10mins later) got a 54/60 @500m with 1/5 - 2 mins left wind.

I couldnt explain what may have happened to the previous shooter, all his 10 shots were in a perfect water line .... they just drifted over a 5min span from left to right.

I first thought he was canting from shot to shot but this would give elevation issues also. As i wathced him through release and followthrough he seemed to be doing everythin ok, no apparent problems noted.

Bugger if i know .. i felt responcible to a degree as i was his coach. Not only that but i couldnt explain it or fix it.

He still had a great day.

Sounds like a stock weld problem. He may have kep a consistent sight picture with a bit of right scope shadow. Given the problem was not evident for u. This would also account for a lateral displacemtn without elev changes.

someone suggested it was my rifle!

anyway, after i dug a hole and put him in it ... i did ask this chap behind my rifle about the site picture, his position looked fine and comfy all looked ok.

Stock pressure will give vertical movement as will canting, in fact most position issues will give vertical movement.

the only thing i could think of is this, was he swithcing from using the cross hair to a mill dot shot to shot?

it would explain not only a 3 min shift but also the fine groups he was getting in the 4 ring!

I remember asking, its the first thing i do, is the target in focus? .. are the cross hairs in focus?

many months ago i did have a new shooter who said the cross hairs were like double vision. A quick change to the diopter setting fixed it.

Wouldnt have happened with the MLR though

That may be case but I really found it good for bracketing error during the prize meet. Does the Mil dot have the 1/4 mil grads on the far right & upper lines???

no, it just has dots at 3.6 min spacings. I do find the dots also help in bracketing especially when the 6 ring is hard to define.

Havnt shot at the club for a bloody long time now oh well had some fun with a Ruger 10/22 Today only a couple of Probs with that didnt have enough ammo, took to long to load the Mag and now i want one

Oh well when is the next shoot at the Club Tony and what range? i still have to sight me rifle in from 4-5 months ago *the last time i got to actually shoot*

hi sam
we don't use semi autos in fclass, and you won't see human faces on targets at a nraa range, except when military or police use them. thbullet holes in these targets reflect the skill levels of the shooters

Best day i'v had on a rifle range in 25 years!

I learnd more in one day than i have in the last 10 years .. thank you.

I first thought it was a little expencive at $95.00, but now having done the course i would pay double that!

(we have sent him a reply e-mail asking for more money .. )

For those interested

At the end of a Training Day the participants are asked to fill out a questionnaire, to help us provide the right information for the next course.

Although obvious that the live fire exercises are always a hit the theory sessions in the morning are what we are interested in.

The questionnaires have now been compiled by the club with the following results.

All 10/10 found each of the 7 topics Very Good to Excellent.

6/10 shooters found Wind reading and MOA to be the most interesting.

2/10 shooters found Ballistics and how to create drop charts most interesting.

2/10 shooters found Scope adjustments and Shooting position/technique most interesting.

I just recieved word that MBRC have 2 new members joind from Sundays training day.
